At The Nye we provide a safe and secure environment where parents and their children can remain together whilst a robust assessment of parenting capacity is undertaken by the directors. We offer tailored support based on specific need, to ensure all our training and learning is accessible and relevant to the needs identified in the referral.

We are a Residential Family Centre located in Aberfan in the County Borough of Merthyr Tydfil. The Nye is a converted former hotel, there are six self-contained studio flats located on the first and second floors of an expansive building which is also accessible via a passenger lift.

Our Team

Led by well-qualified social workers.

The Nye Family Assessment Resource is our director: Lauran Type Burnell. A qualified social worker with many years of experience in the field.

Lauran has a background and knowledge-base rooted in safeguarding and child protection, taking this passion and uniting to create the Nye facility.

Janine Edwards is the independent Responsible Individual (RI)

A qualified social worker, registered with Social Care Wales. Janine has a wealth of experience from Local Authority Children’s Services, with commitment was to ‘Children Looked After’.

Positioned as Responsible Individual for three Children’s Residential Homes and has a good working knowledge and understanding of the RISCA regulations and requirements.

Our Facility

Each family is provided their own studio flat.

Each studio is furnished with a bed, cot, seating area, kitchen and ensuite bathrooms. Parents and their children have access to a family room where they will be encouraged to interact with other residents and take part in parenting group activities and direct work.

Furthermore, there is access to a confidential meeting room which can be utilised for key worker sessions and one to one visits by social workers. The Nye provides 24/7 surveillance and is fully equipped with CCTV cameras.
